L’Oreal Professionnel AirLight Pro Review: Quick, Light, and Ready

AirLight is compatible with iOS 13.0 and above (including iPads), Android 8.0 Oreo and above, and Bluetooth 5.0. It offers 12 presets designed for four styles: Standard, Sleek, Curly, and Coily. Each configuration is customizable and can be saved for future use, so when you close your preferences, they’re always ready. There is also a fully customizable mode. Another new but welcome feature is the app’s usage tracking, which records how much time you’ve used the dryer. It sounds like a small thing, but knowing when to clean the filter can extend the life of the product (more on that later).

The software is in its early stages, but it works well and leaves a lot of room for improvement. I can’t help but imagine how much better it would be with things like warm-up tips from the pros, quick video tutorials, or even multi-colored motivational boards. L’Oréal has laid the groundwork here, and I’m interested to see how they build on it in the future.

In an industry where most equipment is designed for the disposal, the AirLight Pro is an outlier. L’Oréal says the AirLight Pro engine is built for durability, with a lifespan that can exceed 10 years of professional use – about two hours a day, five days a week. For anyone who has dealt with cheap hair dryers that don’t last the season, this alone is a good idea.

What sets the AirLight Pro apart, however, is its reconfiguration. L’Oréal is making the replacement kit available from early 2025. AirLight Pro also has filter cleaning information for when cleaning is needed. The frequency varies depending on the type of air, daily dust, and other particles (ie, hairspray). If the filter reaches a critical point, the dryer will shut down until you clean it to prevent damage. I haven’t gotten around to it yet, so I can’t vouch for how it works, but I appreciate the idea of ​​a blow dryer looking for longevity.

At $475, the AirLight Pro is affordable. But it’s only $45 more than the Dyson SuperSonic and it has a lot of advantages – it’s quieter than the Dyson, faster at drying my hair, and much more user-friendly with the app. And most importantly, you can repair it if it gets lost after the warranty expires. If I’m going to spend nearly $500 on a hair dryer, I want to make sure I only do it once. The AirLight Pro design is ideal.
