Liverpool sources have reportedly indicated that they remain determined to seal the transfer Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
The Spanish international remains a top target for the Reds even after missing out on a contract this summer, while Arne Sloto’s side have also had surprisingly good results so far this season.
Now it’s actually quite hard to see how Zubimendi would improve this Liverpool squad, with Ryan Gravenberch raising his game this term and giving the team an important overhaul in midfield.
Liverpool transfer target OPEN to Anfield!
Nevertheless, the report from Transfers claims that Liverpool still want Zubimendi, according to club sources, so it will be interesting to see how this saga develops ahead of January.
Arguing Liverpool’s summer approach, Zubimendi admitted that it surprised him, saying yes Basque newspaper: “Liverpool’s offer surprised me, I was on vacation.
“It was an uncomfortable time for me… but I weighed the pros/cons and then decided that the best option was to stay at Real Sociedad.”
It remains to be seen whether Zubimendi will continue to feel that way, but Liverpool fans will be hoping their club can launch a successful second bid for the 25-year-old.
Zubimendi is certainly still good enough for LFC and other top clubs, and it’s hard to imagine him spending that much longer at Sociedad as he enters what should be his peak years.
Zubimendi was also discussed by Arsenalso it could be that they will also appear as competition in the race for his signature.
The Gunners probably need Zubimendi more, as both Thomas Partey and Jorginho are out of contract at the Emirates Stadium at the end of this season.
