Southampton confirmed the appointment of Ivan Jurić as the club’s new coach with a contract for 18 months.
The Saints are rooted to the foot of the table after Russell Martin was sacked following last weekend’s 5-0 home loss to Tottenham.
They have won only one league game this season and collected five points out of a possible 48.

Jurić was available after being fired from Roma earlier this season. The Croatian never made it outside of Italy before playing for Mantova, Crotone, Genoa, Verona and Turin.
He told Southampton’s official website: “I’m very pleased. I think it’s a really big challenge, but I’m very optimistic because I’ve seen a team that can do better.
“It is important to be connected with the fans immediately. I want an aggressive team and I think the Southampton fans will like that.”
Jurić is still waiting for the final work permit, and the club did not say whether he will be in charge of tomorrow’s match with Fulham.
