Players put 8.34B hours into Blizzard titles in 2024, the studio says

Blizzard this week it released its End-Of-Year Review report, in which it revealed the details of how the players reacted to its titles in 2024. To this end, it revealed a number of statistics about the actions of the players in its various games, including World of Warcraft, Diablo and Overwatch. According to the studio, players have clocked in around 8.34 billion times over the course of the game – or about 952,000 years.

Some statistics are a little ridiculous, like the one revealing that Overwatch 2 players spent more than 203 years on the game’s new map, or that Diablo IV saw 480 million player deaths. The studio also reveals more statistics, such as the aforementioned playing time, and the $12.3 million it donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation from the proceeds of the sale of the “Pink Mercy” skin in Overwatch 2.

Given that it’s been a tough year for traditional titles, Blizzard maintaining interest in its live action games is important. 2024 has seen announcements of closures for titles such as Concord, XDefiant, Foamstars and Suicide Squad: Kill Justice League. But Blizzard’s titles seem to be holding the interest of players to post such high numbers.

Blizzard President Johanna Faries said in a statement, “2024 was another big year for Blizzard’s releases, including World of Warcraft’s multi-expansion arc, Worldsoul Saga, and the launch of The War Within, followed by an incredible celebration that spread across the world. all of Warcraft including WoW Modern and Classic, Hearthstone, and Warcraft Rumble… Earlier this year, we were happy to bring Blizzard Games back to China in cooperation with NetEase. We love serving players in China and welcoming people many in World of Warcraft and Hearthstone in this area.”
