Chip company Nvidia gets the green light from the European Union to complete the acquisition of Run:ai.
The EU made a decision today to allow Nvidia to continue its acquisition of Israeli GPU music group Run:ai, according to report from Bloomberg. The European Commission concluded that if the merger went ahead, some hardware options compatible with Nvidia would still be available on the market and therefore the merger of the company would not be able to do it on its own.
Despite the EU’s approval, however, the agreement is still in place supported by the Department of Justice in the US and it is unclear when/if it will be approved.
However, this is welcome news for other AI startups with acquisition and hiring ambitions, as it shows that consolidation is welcome in the AI market – for now.
Although the deal has not been disclosed, the purchase price is expected to be around $700 million, according to a Bloomberg report citing Israeli media. The agreement was was first announced in April.
