Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) joined the outrage Friday over Elon Musk’s endorsement of Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) political party, which has been criticized as a neo-Nazi group, before the February elections in the country.
Musk, the tech billionaire and close ally of President-elect Trump, posted on his social platform X that “only the AfD can save Germany,” prompting a backlash in the United States and from Berlin.
“The out-of-touch billionaire who heads the incoming Trump administration announced last night that he enthusiastically supports the neo-Nazi party in Germany,” Murphy. published in Xalongside a screenshot of Musk’s tweet.
“WTF,” added Murphy. “NONE OF THIS IS OKAY, EVERYONE. NONE OF THIS IS NORMAL.”
Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill), an outspoken Trump critic, blasted Musk as a “drugged billionaire” who “thinks he runs the world.”
“It is literally a neo-Nazi party. Not even kidding,” Kinzinger published in X alongside Musk’s post.

Scholz criticized Musk’s remarks, saying that “freedom of speech also means you can say things that aren’t okay and don’t contain good policy advice,” Politico reported.
AfD leaders welcomed Musk’s support.
“Yes! You’re absolutely right!” Alice Weidel, AfD’s chancellor candidate, published in X shortly after Musk’s missive.
Musk pointed to an interview he gave her Bloomberg on howas she said, “socialist (former German chancellor Angela) Merkel ruined our country, how the European Soviet Union destroys the economic backbone of countries and the malfunctioning of Germany!”
AfD leader Björn Höcke has been charged “whitewash” Nazi crimes and has criticized Germany’s Holocaust memorial in Berlin, an acknowledgment of the horror of the more than 6 million Jews and others killed, as a “monument of shame”.
Last month, the party said it would expel members suspected of links to militant groups later police arrested three members to plot an armed revolt.
