Mason Mount out for weeks

Manchester United will once again be without midfielder Mason Mount for “a few weeks”, with new manager Ruben Amorim promising to help the Englishman recover.

Mount limped off after 14 minutes of United’s 2-1 win at rivals Manchester City last weekend to remain unbeaten away at Tottenham in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Thursday.

The former Chelsea player missed four months of last season with a calf injury and has played just 12 times this season due to multiple setbacks.

Asked how long Mount will be out before Sunday’s visit to Bournemouth, Amorim said: “A couple of weeks.

“I don’t know the exact date, but he will be away for a long time. In that sense, it is part of football and we continue.

“What I can do is help Mase, teach him how to play our game when he recovers. Try to use that time for him to think about different things, and then I think the worst thing is that we don’t have time to train like we should when you’re recovering from a lot of injuries.

“We travel all the time, we have matches, so we don’t have the whole team together in training and it’s really difficult to recreate the game before they come to the match. It’s really hard for a player to be out for so long and he’s trying really hard.”

Team news

Luke Shaw will also be unavailable for Bournemouth, but Marcus Rashford is in contention.

Amorim again left Rashford out of his matchday squad for the midweek game with Tottenham, which was purely due to “selection” but came 48 hours after the United academy product declared himself “ready for a new challenge”.

Asked if the omission, after Rashford also missed the win against Manchester City, was for disciplinary reasons, Amorim said: “No, it’s the same thing, guys, the same thing. The exact same thing.”

Asked if Rashford could feature against Bournemouth, Amorim said: “Yes, of course.”
