A former senior Pentagon official who led the investigations unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), the government’s preferred term for UFOs, criticizes the Biden administration’s handling of recent drone sightingssaying that their security guarantees lack credibility.
“The federal government is not being honest with the American people,” Lue Elizondo, who previously ran a secret Pentagon program investigating UFOs, told NewsNation.Elizabeth Vargas reports“Wednesday. “If they were legally operated vehicles and aircraft, they wouldn’t be shutting down military installations because of drone strikes.”
His comments came as President Biden addressed the public mysterious drone sightings for the first time, stating that there was “nothing nefarious”.
Meanwhile, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) legislation blocked Wednesday which would have given state and local authorities more power to follow the plane.
Some described sightings describe objects “the size of an SUV, possibly the size of a school bus,” with capabilities beyond typical recreational drones, Elizondo said.
He noted that operating multiple sophisticated drones over long distances would require significant infrastructure and resources that are typically only available to state-level actors.
The administration’s response has changed dramatically and quickly, Elizondo said, from claiming it was not known origins of drones to describe them as regular aircraft within 48 hours.
The situation has attracted the attention of Congress, with a classified House Intelligence Committee feeding briefing more questions.
“Why are they having these conversations with Congress and not the American people?” Elizondo asked.
The White House National Security Council maintains that after a thorough investigation, the aircraft appears to be a combination of law enforcement, commercial and hobbyist drones.
