The Wolves have appointed Vitor Pereira as the new head coach

Wolves have confirmed Vitor Pereira as their new head coach, with the Portuguese manager signing an 18-month contract with the club.

Aged 56, Pereira brings a wealth of experience to Molineux, having secured league titles in Portugal, Greece and China during his managerial career.

A former head coach of Al Shabaab in Saudi Arabia, Pereira oversaw his first training session at Wolves’ Compton Park facility on Thursday.

He will make his Premier League debut as Wolves manager when the team face Leicester City this weekend.

Pereira began his managerial journey in 2004 with Portugal’s Sanjoanense and his CV now boasts 13 managerial roles in multiple countries.

He enjoyed great success at Porto, winning back-to-back Primeira Liga titles in 2012 and 2013, with his team losing just one league game in two seasons.

He later achieved a similar feat in Greece, where he led Olympiacos to the Super League title in 2015.

Pereira’s coaching career also includes stints in Turkey and Germany, alongside a triumphant league title win with Shanghai SIPG in 2018.

Wolves chairman Jeff Shi welcomed Pereira to the club, saying: “We are delighted to welcome Vitor Pereira to Wolves as the new head coach of our first team.

“Vitor is a highly respected and experienced coach who has achieved success in various leagues and will bring a fresh approach to the test ahead.

“This is a challenging time for the club and we want to thank Vitor for taking on this responsibility.

“We have full confidence in his ability to get us back on track, along with the players and staff, and the whole club will be united in his support to achieve success.”

Sporting director Matt Hobbs echoed that sentiment, adding: “Vitor is a highly experienced and successful head coach who has demonstrated his ability to succeed at the highest level.

“His personality, drive and leadership qualities have stood out to us throughout this process and we are excited to see him apply his expertise here at Wolves.

“I look forward to working closely with Vitor and his team on a daily basis, supporting them in every way possible – from getting the most out of our staff in Compton to recruiting in the upcoming transfer window – as we work together to strengthen the team and achieve our shared goals.”
