Harry Maguire is hopeful of potentially extending his stay at Manchester United, following “positive” talks with the club.
Maguire’s current contract is due to expire at the end of the season, although United retain the option of a further year, keeping him at the club until 2026.
The English international was close to joining West Ham in 2023, but the transfer fell through.
Since then, Maguire has found himself further down the defensive hierarchy following the summer arrivals of Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yor.
However, after an outstanding performance in United’s dramatic 2-1 derby win over Manchester City on Sunday, the 31-year-old remains hopeful about his future at Old Trafford.
“I haven’t really thought about (my long-term future),” Maguire said.
“I still have this year with an option in their hands. But, yeah, all the signs are positive right now, and the conversation I’m having is really positive.”

When asked if talks were ongoing about a long-term deal, Maguire simply said, “Yes.”
The centre-back was a surprise starter in Ruben Amorim’s line-up for the game at the Etihad.
Maguire produced a solid defensive performance, keeping Erling Haaland quiet as United scored two late goals to secure a dramatic victory.
“It’s been a tough start to the season for us and our fans don’t have much to cheer about, so it’s for them,” added Maguire.
“I thought it was a 50-50 game, to be honest. It could have gone either way. It’s progress, but there’s still a long way to go.”
The win marked a significant result for Amorim, who has experienced mixed results since replacing Erik ten Hag as United manager.
“I think you can see we have a good structure, a good style of play, the way he wants us to work,” Maguire added.
“Tactically, he is very good. He proved that he is a winner.
“And, look, we’re still pretty new. I think it’s been here for about a month now and we’re really looking forward to where we can go and where we can take this club. I’m sure he will take it in a positive way.”
