Biden sinks to record low, while Trump’s numbers climb, in new national poll


With one month left in office, President Biden’s the approval rating is reaching a new low.

Biden has 34 percent approval and 66 percent disapproval in a national Marquette Law School poll conducted Dec. 2-11 and released Wednesday.

That represents a four-percentage-point drop from October and Biden’s lowest approval rating in the Marquette Law School poll since the president took office in White House four years ago

The president’s approval rating is in the 30s to 40s in the latest national polls, including the most recent Fox News national poll, where Biden has a 41% approval rating.

Biden’s approval rating hovered in the low 50s during his first six months in the White House. However, the president’s numbers began to drop in August 2021 in the wake of Biden’s much-criticized handling of the turmoil. US exit from Afghanistan and after the spike in COVID-19 cases that summer, mostly among unvaccinated people.

The president’s drop in approval rating was also fueled by rising inflation, which began rising in the summer of 2021 and still remains a major concern for Americans’ pocketbooks, and increase in migrants trying to cross into the United States throughout the southern border with Mexico

President-elect Donald Trump he ended his first term with a 47 percent approval rating, according to a Fox News poll four years ago.

the new Marquette Poll shows that 53% of adults nationwide say they approve of how Trump has handled his job during his first term in the White House (2017-2021), a three-point increase from his poll October

“This is Trump’s highest approval rating since March, when this retrospective approval question was first asked in national polls by the Marquette Law School Poll,” the poll’s statement noted.

The poll also indicates the public is divided over Trump’s cabinet appointments for his second administration, some of which have sparked controversy.

Forty-nine percent of respondents approved Trump’s handling of cabinet appointments, with 51% disapproval.

According to the Fox News poll, which was conducted Dec. 6-9, 47 percent approved of the job Trump is doing in picking his cabinet, and 50 percent gave the thumbs down.

Trump’s favorable rating stands at 49% favorable and 50% unfavorable in the Marquette poll, his highest since the first administration.

The president is 37% favorable and 62% unfavorable.

Vice President Kamala Harris has a favorable rating of 41% and an unfavorable rating of 57% in the new poll. That’s down from 45% favorable and 51% unfavorable in the October poll, when Harris was the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee.

Vice President-elect Sen. JD Vance has a 35% favorable rating and 47% unfavorable rating in the new poll.

The Marquette Law School poll has an overall sampling error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.
