Wolves are closing in on Pereira’s deadline

Wolves are expected to confirm the appointment of Vitor Pereira as their new head coach later today.

The Portuguese will succeed Gary O’Neil, who was sacked after Saturday’s home defeat by Ipswich left Wolves second from bottom of the Premier League after winning just two games this season.

Wolves and Pereira’s current club Al Shabab have reportedly agreed a compensation package that will see the 56-year-old take over at Molineux ahead of Sunday’s trip to relegate Leicester City.

Pereira enjoyed a nomadic tenure in governance, spending time in his homeland as well as in Saudi Arabia, Greece, Turkey, Germany, China and Brazil.

The highlight of his managerial career was a two-year spell at the helm of Porto, which saw him win back-to-back Primeira Liga titles.

He also won league titles with Olympiacos and Shanghai SIPG.

However, Pereira will have a tough job trying to push Wolves away from danger.

The club may have to be without star player Matheus Cunha for some time after he was accused of misconduct by the Football Association this morning.

The Brazilian striker, Wolves’ top scorer in the Premier League with eight goals this season, was involved in an altercation after the game against Ipswich, clashing with a member of opposition security.
