In a new interview built by Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim which ends up being more about Follow up (perhaps unsurprisingly), Brian Cox talked about what it was like to be the man who played Hannibal Lecter on screen for the first time… Silence of the Lambs he made everyone think he was the one who started the project.
The veteran actor, who since 1986 has been involved in popular theater, has made peace with what could have been magic. “Well, it’s a different character,” he said and the Hollywood Reporter. “I mean, it’s like playing Hamlet. Everyone’s going to have their own Hamlet. I chose to play it the way director Michael Mann and I chose to play it. Tony played it so well. I mean, I had to go to Paris to see it because I couldn’t see it in London.
When asked to clarify the latter part of his answer, Cox explained, “Because people knew I was the other Hannibal, and I was worried about saying, ‘You’re comparing Hannibal Lecter’ and all that.” But we played the way we do. Tony decided to take it down another route. And of course, Tony’s was very successful, and he won an Oscar and made a lot of money. I made like 10 big ones. “
But one rule that has stuck with both of them, obviously, is Cox and Hopkins do not speak about Hannibal Lecter. “I did an interview with the newspaper, and the headline was that I was the first Hannibal Lecter. Well, that was true, but it sounded like I was bragging and I wasn’t. And then I woke up one afternoon and the phone started ringing and everything went wrong… The guy Tony then called my assistant and said, ‘Tony is a little upset about that.’ So I called my assistant and I said, ‘Look, I’m sorry.’ “Tony and I have worked together a few times. We never talk about it. And that’s a rule we wouldn’t.”
For those wondering, THR did not bring Mads Mikkelsen’s thoughts on the TV character. Hannibal-so we’re still wondering what Cox was thinking that the classic serial killer type. With this in mind, you can go The price of THR read the entire discussion.
