I didn’t eat my first cup of coffee until I turned 24, when I was forced by a boss to attend an ad hoc cupping session. At first I found the taste of black coffee to be repulsive, but my boss at a small coffee shop couldn’t afford the best options like Minty Mocha Freeze, so my tastes were forced to change. I slowly learned to enjoy the ritual of making fresh coffee in the morning, and soon I began to enjoy the opportunity to spend the day with my father and drink coffee when I visited my parents during the holidays. Just two guys drinking Folgers from Mr. Thick coffee while repeating NCIS and Law & Order: SVU endless exposure on TV.
Then I moved to Portland, Oregon, during the so-called “third wave” of coffee, and got a job in a coffee shop and bakery. At this point my coffee consumption went from a physiological need to a conscious one. Burners like Stumptown and Coava taught me the principles of elimination, The Black Rabbit he taught me how to clean and maintain my La Marzocco shop, which has since been closed Seattle Coffee Gear the work space outside piqued my interest in the ever-expanding universe of brewers, brewers, boilers, and doodads that promise great cups of coffee in all shapes and sizes.
