After The Invisible Man and Abigail, Universal has yet another modern take on one of its classic monsters hitting theaters. Although it takes time to make Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man, will be here in less than a month, and a new behind-the-scenes video digs into the film’s inspiring details.
In this episode, Whannell readily admits to using the film to explore “disease and change,” themes that have been at the heart of werewolf stories. But his spin has another weight: he wrote a record in 2020 during the the first days of the plagueso the film can’t help but explain how illness can lead to “isolation, fear, and anxiety.” Blake, our Wolf Man played by Christopher Abbott, is attacked by a werewolf and slowly succumbs to the beast while his wife Charlotte (Julia Garner) and daughter Ginger (Matilda Firth) watch as it happens… to spend the night on the run away from him.
Similarly, the director thinks Wolf Man paying homage to two of his favorite films of the 80s, The thing and The Flying. Those films also explore the human fear of being (or being close to) something uncontrollable and dangerous. It’s a slightly different song for Whannell, who has been in the horror game since the beginning Indeed, but it works like A deceiver and Change it focus on the dangers of demonic or evil, delusional activities. He is very fond of using fear to “dig deep into someone’s consciousness,” as well wolfman, they want to provide “threat” and provide “something scary and visually appealing” to the audience.
We will see if its bite is as dangerous as its bark appears Wolf Man will hit theaters on January 17, 2025.
