HDMI 2.2 may debut at CES next month

We may see the next HDMI standard, HDMI 2.2, in just weeks. According to an email from the HDMI Forum sent to press including Engadget this week, the new HDMI standard will be announced on Monday, January 6 before the Las Vegas show. . Details at the moment are very limited – what we’ve been told is that the new feature “enables higher resolutions and refresh rates and will be supported by the new HDMI cable.”

It has been seven years since the introduction of HDMI 2.1. It was recently updated to 2.1b in 2023, to support bandwidths up to 48Gbps and views up to 10K. The new specifications and next-generation HDMI technology will bring higher bandwidth, according to the email. That’s all we know for now, but we’ll have the team down at CES to bring you up to speed on these and other announcements as they come.
