We’ve been hearing rumors about foldables that Apple might not be making for years, since in preparation for a foldable iPad, but recent reports suggest we could be in for something even bigger. According to Mark Gurman in the book in a letter this weekend, Apple is developing a foldable device with a display that opens up to about 20 inches. The system is “something like a large iPad that spreads the size of two iPads side by side,” with all the features of an iPad and a Mac, according to Gurman. The company says it wants to release in 2028.
Not only will the device be larger, but Apple is also working to make it more flexible when unlocked, Gurman says, something other companies have failed to do in their notebooks. Apple’s prototypes “have an invisible feature,” he writes, but they’re not finished. The report comes a week after a which described a similar device with an 18.8-inch display that should be released between 2028 and 2030. Gurman predicts that the foldable will run on “iPadOS or its variants.”
