New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) and incoming border czar Tom Homan exchanged words of praise Thursday, after the two former law enforcement officers met to discuss the extent of cooperation on deportations between the city and the incoming Trump administration.
Homan, who has become a conservative media favorite making several appearances a week, compared Adams to other local and state Democratic leaders during an appearance on Sean Hannity. Fox News show thursday night
“Look, I sat down with the mayor for over an hour. He understands. And today he showed that, as the mayor of New York City, he’s more concerned about public safety than politics. I wish the mayor of Chicago and San Diego City Council Mayor and Governor (JB) Pritzker, I would like everyone to take a page out of Mayor Eric Adams’ playbook,” Homan said.
Homan, a multi-year veteran of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) who hung up his tactical gear and jumped into the political fray during the Trump administration, will take on the role of border czar, a semi-official, not Paper confirmed in the Senate.
While the name implies a border focus, Homan’s role during the transition has been to amplify the intended size and scope of Trump’s domestic mass deportation plans, straddling the threat of an all-out approach against all immigrants without permanent legal status and the promise. a criminals first strategy.
Adams, speaking at a press conference after the meeting, he said Homan focused on the latter.
“From what I heard from the new head of ICE is that we have the same desire, to go after those who are committing acts of violence, repeated acts of violence, among innocent New Yorkers and among migrants and asylum seekers. That’s what I to hear from him, and I was glad to hear that because we share the same desire,” Adams said, incorrectly identifying Homan, who led ICE from 2017 to 2018, as to incoming head of the agency.
But Homan has repeatedly said the new Trump administration will target all immigrants without permanent legal status, including those with immediate family members of U.S. citizens, a group Homan has suggested would have to leave the country if they want to avoid the separation of their deported family members.
Inan interview segmentto “Dr. Phil Podcast” released Thursday, Homan laid out his view of how undocumented parents of American citizen children should be treated.
“If you choose to have an American child while in this country illegally, shame on you. You put yourself in that position, and I removed them despite some outcry even from Republican senators. The law is the law and not the we’re going to double down,” Homan said.
