“It was a fantastic start to the Derby, it really was – and what a goal,” former Wales midfielder Dave Edwards told Sky Sports.
“It’s all about (Eiran) Cashin with the addition early in the build of Ebou Adams. (Jerry) Yates just lays it off to Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, and he’s so dangerous running at defenders.
“Wilson comes in perfectly and holds the finish through the bodies. This is a great start for the Derby and a thoroughly deserved lead.”
Powerful centre-back Cashin doubled the lead 15 minutes later, heading Kenzo Goudmijn’s corner to swing home to ensure County scored more than one goal for the first time in seven games.
“He had a part in the first goal and that header was outstanding,” Edwards said. “It goes into the ground and it’s a beautiful, beautiful header.

“He is the Rolls-Royce at the back and that’s where he shows his attacking skills. From the jump, to create that power – it’s a really great header.”
Ebou Adams made it 3-0 after 29 minutes, turning in Craig Forsyth’s close-range cross with a deflection off Tom McIntyre.
Derby enter the competition on a six-match winless streak with one win in 11 games, although their 0-0 draw at Burnley on Tuesday ended a run of three consecutive defeats.

Paul Warne’s side fell four points clear of the relegation zone and were under pressure against opponents on a four-match unbeaten run.
Pompey collected two wins in those games with convincing wins over Preston North End and Bristol City, but they started the night above the relegation zone on goal difference alone, with their only away win of the campaign coming on October 19 at QPR, who fought against him.
