Makena Kelly: I feel like I have this story read in my head, and maybe it’s true, I have to look it up, but when Jimmy Carter came into office, he saw the UFO files and cried, and he didn’t say anything about it.

Marchman’s Team: I believe I have heard this too.

Makena Kelly: Yeah, and I don’t know if that’s true. I just tried to research. And considering Trump’s access to these things, I don’t know if he’s going to release them. I can’t be optimistic.

Marchman’s Team: I don’t believe he will release anything because he was already president and he did not release the information in question. I believe that what the secret files would show if they were declassified is that the US was involved in the cover-up of Lee Harvey Oswald and his relationship with the Soviet Union out of fear that if it became known, it would lead to a nuclear war. And that most of the subsequent concealment has been a cover up. And I believe that the UFO files will show that extraterrestrials crashed in New Mexico in the 1940s and lead the US government on a quest to find out about the universe, including the aliens that created the most famous religions in human history. as guides to give people advice on how not to destroy their bodies which are the vessels of souls that aliens harvest for power. This has been a theory, at least that many UFO supporters have been putting there since the 1980s, and I certainly strongly believe that it is true, maybe Donald Trump will prove it. Marchman’s Team: Welcome back to WIRED Politics Lab. This is the Plot of the Week, the part of the show where our guests bring their favorite ideas and I’ll be judging on Leah’s behalf. This week’s winner gets to brag forever, so I hope you all brought the best. Well, let’s start with you.

Makena Kelly: Yes, I’m glad you brought up the aliens and the JFK assassination because I’ll complete the trifecta with that. One of the conspiracy theories that I think has had its moment in the sky, we can say, this year, has been chemtrails. These are the processes that airplanes leave as they fly through the air, apparently spreading all these chemicals to harm and poison us, when in fact they are just water vapor. Earlier this year with the hurricane in North Carolina there were conspiracies about chemtrails going on there. Lawmakers in Tennessee passed a bill about something and regulating chemtrails, crazy stuff. But this week, oh my, I lost it when I saw this. There was what appeared to be an internet joke about a Lufthansa pilot refusing to spray chemtrails on his son while flying. Apparently he took a big stand and said, “I won’t do it.” And the chemtrail, I guess we could call it the chemtrail community, was excited about it. And it’s not true, it was a joke. Yes.
