Pelosi is “on the mend” after hip replacement surgery in Germany

The news comes after Pelosi, 84, suffered an injury Friday while on a trip to the nation in Western Europe with a congressional delegation. Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-Wis.), who was also on the trip, disclosed in an online post that he fell down a flight of stairs.

The group of 18 lawmakers from Luxembourg will participate in celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge through Sunday, according to spokesman Mike Johnson (R-La.).

Pelosi was transported to Landsthul Regional Medical Center in Germany for surgery.

The former Democratic leader, who stepped down last year to make way for the next generation, has remained in Congress. The California Legislature was elected to serve a 20th term in the lower house last month and has maintained a schedule that includes votes in the House, television appearances and international travel.

Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) wished Pelosi a “speedy recovery” after the news.
