Welcome back to Week in Review. This week, we’re looking at GM’s decision to get out of the robotaxi business, Google’s multi-national presence, and how you can make big money by getting an AI bot to love you. Let’s get into it.
General Motors no longer offers cash development of its commercial robotaxi business and instead they take Cruise, his self-driving car company, and is combining it with the manufacturer’s efforts to develop tools to assist drivers – and eventually self-driving cars. Several Cruise employees told TechCrunch they were “blindsided” by the decision. GM acquired Cruise in 2016 for $1 billion and spent more than $10 billion on the company’s efforts.
OpenAI has been released and ChatGPT real time videos that he took it down about seven months ago. ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Pro subscribers can use the app to point their phones to ChatGPT’s most recent response. Google this week revealed its first AI assistant which can act online. Called Project Mariner, the Gemini-powered agent takes control of your Chrome browser, moves the cursor around your screen, clicks buttons, and fills in forms, allowing them to use and browse websites like a human would. Although it is still a prototype from its DeepMind division, it represents a shift by Google to move users away from direct websites.
