WhatsApp allows you to select other people in a group to start a call without disturbing anyone

WhatsApp has announced that it has added new features for video calling ahead of the holiday season, including participant selection for group calls, better editing, and a redesigned calling tab on the desktop. This is another step from Meta in making WhatsApp a better option for personal and work calls than using Google Meet or Zoom.

When you’re in a group, a messaging app lets you call the whole group. However, sometimes, you don’t want or need to call everyone in a group and interrupt them. Now, the company is offering the opportunity to choose participants in public calls. This is useful if you know that only a few people are available to talk, or you are planning a surprise for someone in the group.

WhatsApp is also adding new video ads, including puppy ears, taking you underwater, or giving you a karaoke microphone.

As for the desktop app, the company is also redesigning its call tab to show buttons for starting a call, creating a new call link, and dialing a number. The company said it is also doing well in individual and group calls on mobile and desktop.

In the last year, WhatsApp has updated its video calling feature by adding support for 32 participants, introducing a speaker display to show the speaker on the phone with multiple people, and add screen sharing and audio. Many organizations use WhatsApp for internal communication, and both can help when it comes to work-related calls on WhatsApp.
