The Witcher 4, Starring Ciri, Announced at The Game Awards

Fans of the Witcher series were in for a treat The Game Awards 2024 in Los Angeles – a six-minute trailer revealing The Witcher 4, featuring the great Ciri, adopted daughter of Geralt of Rivia.

Geralt was not found in the trailer, which does not mean that he is not in the game. But Ciri will play a major role in the game as the protagonist, CD Projekt Red known in a Press release. While there wasn’t any gameplay in the trailer, it focuses on the nuts and bolts of the Witcher games: using iron and silver swords and magic (along with a new chain weapon) to take down monstrous monsters.

While Studio CD Projekt Red described the trailer as a short story, indicating that it may not represent the game’s plot, it did hint at themes that may be present in the game: a young village girl plans to make a sacrifice to a local monster, which Ciri intervenes to kill. But when he returns to the villagers, he finds the girl dead in the midst of a divine invocation — to which the white-beaded Witcher angrily says, “There are no gods here—only monsters.” Cold!

Although not showing gameplay, the studio noted that the trailer was created using assets and models from the game itself. CD Project Red also teased that it was built in Unreal Engine 5 on an “unknown NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU.”

CD Projekt Red has not announced any release date or information about when the game will be released, nor what platforms it will be released on.
