Kindles have useful features that you may want to take advantage of. Long press a word or phrase to view meaning, light it upor take documents. You can also search throughout the book to find a word or phrase or a translation from other languages.

Words of Wisdom they show short definitions in small text inside the lines. Unfortunately, it’s not available in all books, but when it is, you can pause or pause it and choose more tips. Clicking on a short definition opens a longer one from Word Wise and the New Oxford American Dictionary or the Oxford Dictionary of English (you can switch between the two), including a translation, and a Wikipedia page, if applicable.

While reading, click on the top of the screen and click “Aa” to change font size or color-there is even a font called OpenDyslexic that helps make reading easier for people with dyslexia. You can also control the size of rows and columns from the menu.

When the Kindle is connected to a Bluetooth speaker or headset, VoiceView Screen Reader (to pass Favorites > Reachable) lets you use your hands to scan your device and read your printed content aloud. It will also read a book aloud, although it doesn’t sound as good as an audio book.

Amazon owns it Good readingso it connects seamlessly with Kindles (press the three-dot menu > Good reading). If you have a Goodreads account, you can review Kindle books you’ve read or browse your books and recommendations. Long-pressing on a word or phrase, in addition to the features mentioned above, opens the option to share the word directly to Goodreads.

There is a browser and if you have internet (three-dot menu > Web Browser). It’s not very good, so I’ll save it for emergency research.
