Kylian Mbappe could miss the Intercontinental Cup final with the thigh injury he picked up in Real Madrid’s win against Atalanta on Tuesday.
The French striker opened the scoring in Bergamo with a wonderful finish, but was then forced off 10 minutes before half-time.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti indicated after the match that Mbappe’s withdrawal was only a precautionary measure.
He said: “It doesn’t look serious. He has an overload, a little discomfort.
“We will have to see in the next few days. It doesn’t seem serious, but he had to stop, because he couldn’t sprint and it was bothering him a bit. So we preferred to change it.”
Further tests in the Spanish capital revealed an injury which local daily AS claims will take 10 days to heal.
The club’s statement reads: “Following the tests carried out by the Real Madrid medical department on Kylian Mbappé today, the player has been diagnosed with a thigh injury in his left leg. His progress will be monitored.”

That 10-day timeframe will mean Mbappe will miss this weekend’s game against Rayo Vallecano and is a major doubt for the Intercontinental Cup final against Mexico’s Pachuca or Egypt’s Al Ahly on December 18.
It is another setback for Mbappe, who has struggled for form and fitness since joining Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
