Sen. Cory Booker (DN.J.) praised the increase sightings of unidentified drones to his home state, saying he is “concerned.”
“I’m concerned, I issued a letter asking for more information, I think there should be a lot more transparency,” Booker told reporters Thursday on Capitol Hill.
Senators from New York and New Jersey, including Booker, sent a letter Thursday to the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), asking for a briefing on drones seen flying over their states.
“The potential safety and security risks posed by these drones in civilian areas are particularly relevant given the recent drone incursions into sensitive military locations inside and outside the continental United States over the past year,” they wrote in the letter and they said they are waiting for an answer. no later than December 23.
Booker added that he has been “a little frustrated.”
“There hasn’t been enough transparency for people to know what’s going on,” he said. “It’s allowing a lot of potentially misinformation, or at least fear, to be spread. We should know what’s going on in our skies.”
White House national security spokesman John Kirby said the current administration is seeking more information on the matter. drone sightings which have been seen since late November in both New York and northern New Jersey. But he brushed himself the likelihood that they are a threat.
The Department of Defense also said There is “no evidence” that the drones are the product of a foreign entity or “the work of an adversary,” according to Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh.
The FBI is currently investigating the sightings.
