Maresca praises Chelsea players for playing in difficult conditions

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca was delighted with his players who played in difficult conditions in their latest Conference League triumph.

It was a routine win for the Blues in Kazakhstan, beating FC Astana 3-1 to secure a place in the knockout stages.

The West Londoners took control early on, scoring twice in five minutes.

Marc Guiu was the scorer of both goals, the first with a brilliant solo run and the second with a scrappy run over the line.

Renato Veiga scored Chelsea’s third goal to take complete control.

Astana pulled one back thanks to an incredible strike that hit the post and went in just before half-time.

But that was about the only good chance they had in the half and the match.

The visitors were in control and Maresca was more than happy to praise his young team.

Speaking to HaytersTV after the game, he said: β€œWe knew it was quite cold; we tried to adapt, and the players were fantastic.

“The conditions, the long flight, the journey and the field were not ideal, but all in all, I am very happy for the players”

Chelsea fielded a young squad including several unknown names.

And the former Leicester manager was more than happy to name them and praise them for getting the job done.

He added: β€œAll of them, all of them, the starters, Tyrique, Sam and Josh, they were all very, very good!

“Happy for them. And those who entered in the 2nd half! I’m happy for them.”
