Have you seen the amazing video with the countdown clock that says it’s coming from Luigi MangioneA 26-year-old “person of interest” in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York last week? The video went viral on Monday on YouTube, gaining attention on sites like Hacker News. But it is completely false.
Mangione allegedly had a “manifesto” and a shotgun and was arrested at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania on Monday. He was charged with five counts, including carrying a firearm without a license, theft, impersonating an officer, and possession of a weapon, according to the complaint. articles on the Internet. But Mangione has not been charged with Thompson’s murder and has never been named as a suspect, although the Internet is treating him as one.
A video surfaced Monday that appears to be from a YouTube account linked to Mangione. It started with the words “Truth” and “If you see this, I’m already arrested.” It had a countdown clock that counted from 5 to 1 before going to 60 and counting down to zero from there.
In the top right corner it included the words “Soon” and briefly flashed the date December 11th before disappearing again in less than a minute. He ended with the words “Everything is fixed, be patient. Bye for now.”
If you want to know what the video looks like, you can check hereassuming YouTube doesn’t delete this anymore. We promise we won’t try to fool anyone with it. But it can be interesting to see what the fuss is about after another hoax has gone viral but you missed it.
The account was already created in January 2024, and it is possible for someone to set up a version of the transformation of a dead person– he prepares a video to be published in the future, he wants to stop the publication if he is not arrested (or killed, or as the case may be). But YouTube confirmed to Gizmodo that it wasn’t real.
“We terminated the channel in question for violating our privacy policy, which prohibits impersonation on YouTube,” a spokesperson for the video told Gizmodo via email on Monday.
“The channel’s metadata has been updated following the news of Luigi Mangione’s arrest, including changes to the channel’s name and handle,” the spokesperson said. “Additionally, we terminated another channel 3 of the suspect, per our Creator’s instructions.”
The spokesman said the accounts had been around for several months. Who is really behind the movie? This is still unknown. But our money is on something related to crypto. Who knows?
