the man suspected of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was charged last week with murder in New York City.
Luigi Mangione, 26, faces five charges, including second-degree murder. according to an arrest warrant. He also faces two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, one count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
Mangione, an Ivy League graduate, was arrested on Monday after being recognized at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pa., a couple of hours outside of Pittsburgh. “He became silent and began to shake” when asked if he had been to New York recently, police officers wrote in their criminal complaint.

NYPD Detective Yousef Demes said the shooter, whom he identified as Mangione, shot the healthcare executive multiple times, but that an autopsy showed a gunshot wound to the torso caused the death of the CEO, according to the order.
New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch called the shooting a “brazen and targeted attack.”
Thompson joined UnitedHealth in 2004 and has led UnitedHealthcare, the company’s insurance division, since 2021.
Extradition proceedings are expected to take place in Pennsylvania on Tuesday afternoon, according to a spokesman for the state courts.
