Rode has just announced the latest version of its popular Wireless GO microphone. Third-party tools bring a lot of innovation to the table, especially when compared to .
The microphone allows 32-bit on-board recording and audio can be recorded directly to the receiver. The system allows up to 40 hours of footage, stored internally, and includes a new technology called GainAssist.
This is a compression algorithm, one of a kind, that “can optimize audio on the fly.” Rode says the system removes “the natural variability found in static graphics.” The company also mentions that there should be a few post adjustments when using the machine. If the algorithm makes a mistake, the microphone includes a second storage method that records the dry voice.
Most users use a microphone connected to a camera of some kind, so storage will not be necessary. Rode says the new Wireless GO system can work up to 260 meters from the receiver, as long as it is in line of sight. The company also claims that it is compatible with all Rode Series IV devices, incl and . This includes providing “universal compatibility with cameras, mobile phones and computers.”
There are closed lavalier connectors and an integrated LCD screen for battery monitoring and audio signals. Finally, the system is available in all kinds of limited colors, including red, orange, pink and purple, among others. The Wireless GO II was only available in black and white.
This modified Wireless GO microphone kit comes with one receiver, two transceivers, a mounting bracket, a few windshields and lots of cables. Available for $300. There is also a dedicated case, which is sold separately for $90.
