Porting different PlayStation consoles has been popular for years, with developers trying to do so on different platforms. On Monday, the makers of PS3 emulator RPCS3 released a teaser on YouTube showing how their emulator runs on arm64 hardware, specifically on a. . In a also showed an emulator running on Apple M1 chips. All told, the emulator can now run on arm64 chips across Windows, Mac and Linux.
If you are not familiar with RPCS3, it is an emulator Atlus tried around Person 5‘released in 2017. In the defense of Atlus, the builders name-dropped Man on his Patreon page. Patreon took the side of the RPCS3 developers but asked them to remove all claims Man responsibilities.
It is surprising that the PS3 emulator runs on the Raspberry Pi 5, which is not a gaming platform. Through wizardry, the RPCS3 team was able to push the equipment to its limits. Frarate is locked down to 30FPS, and the footage looks like it’s coming from a PlayStation Portable screen, which is a 480p display from 20 years ago. The developers were unable to render the game at 720p resolution for the PS3. Naturally, Apple’s most powerful Silicon chips will provide gaming at a higher resolution.
Consider this, though. If you went back and told people that the PSP could run PS3 games, no one would believe you. But the proof is here, and the player showed how the game did not affect the big drops. Although interesting, the first RPCS3 siemulator to run on arm64 devices, since the honor goes to Dolphin, the popular Wii and GameCube emulator.
