i stumbled across NumberA Reddit topicNumber This really caught my attention.
Someone asked “What was the ‘one thing’ that finally made you lose weight?”
This question has 5,400 responses (and counting).
Some answers involved environmental changes or changing the way they prepare food:
“Pour the snacks into the ramekins and eat them. Suddenly I was eating a normal amount of snacks.
“I prepared the usual amount of food for my meals, and instead of putting it into 2 containers, I spread it evenly across 4 containers. I forced myself to only eat one box per meal and tricked my brain into thinking it was is my normal intake.
Others have changed what they eat:
“Found a salad that I really like. It sounds silly, but I’ve never had a salad craving before, and having a salad that I really liked meant I ate a lot of lettuce for weeks on end – and it went from there At first, it just snowballed because I actually felt good, and then started craving that feeling good.
Some people take a more holistic approach, including re-evaluating their relationship with food, hunger and discomfort:
“Realize that this is a lifestyle change, not a diet.”
“Embrace the pain. When you do cardio, you feel breathless and uncomfortable; when you lift weights, you feel pain; when you limit your intake, you feel hungry.
Others use apps to track their calorie intake, which makes them aware of how much they eat:
“Using an app to track everything I eat. I realized that a lot of the “healthy” things I eat contain a lot more calories in the amounts I eat than I thought. Simply cutting back on certain foods can do the trick.
Some people have had success with the initial boost of medication:
“Go to the doctor for my type 2 diabetes. I weigh over 300 pounds and also have coronary artery disease. I qualify for diabetes medication that also helps with appetite control. Start tracking calories and exercise.
“Semaglutide”
Some people prioritize physical activity over food:
“Find a hobby. I overeat out of boredom. Coming home from work and sitting on the couch makes it easier for me to eat…Now I just do things I enjoy so I’m not eating Sometimes distracted.
“Walking. It turns out I lost 45 pounds in 7 months by walking around my neighborhood every night. It was free, low impact, and I could walk rain or shine even in a snowstorm. Now I got a treadmill and walked indoors and still felt just as good as when I started.
As we go through this list and read thousands of people’s comments, looking back at the “one thing” that changed their lives, and how much of a difference it made, we can draw some interesting conclusions.
Lesson 1: “Success is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm.” -Winston Churchill.
The hardest part about staying healthy is no Hope is lost when some of the strategies you try don’t work. I bet that for everyone who shared their answer above, they have tried dozens of different strategies to try and stay healthy. Gosh, I bet they tried most of what worked for everyone else until they found what worked for them.
What we can learn from this: “The hope is that NumberWarrior emotion eliminates cynicismNumber,” and you can have hope, because every failed attempt means one less strategy to try in the future.
For example, if you have tried Keto 5 times before and couldn’t stick with it, congratulations! You find your diet isn’t working for you.
if you can keep it Number“Beta testing” mentalityNumber “I’m going to see if it works for me” and you may find the first domino falls your travel!
Lesson 2: Beware of charlatans.
Spend enough time on social media and you’ll eventually encounter health scammers. These people tell you that only they have it One solution to all your problems. They often have an evil villain (“It’s sugar! It’s carbs! It’s ingredient X!”).
Sure enough, once they’ve spread fear and scared the crap out of you, they’ll give you hope with expensive unregulated supplements or foolproof systems.
As you can see in the example above, there is no “one size fits all” solution to this problem. Everyone is a unique weirdo with different baggage, triggers, traumas, and experiences that make certain solutions a home run and others a non-starter.
You can read more about how to spot and avoid charlatans in my past articles: “NumberHow not to go crazy onlineNumber”.
Which brings me to my third point!
Lesson 3: All fitness stories have 3 boring things in common!
Although all of these “single” body shaping solutions are different, they do have some similarities.
Good news? None of this stuff is revolutionary, proprietary, or fancy.
Fitness really boils down to three things:
Losing weight is not magical. This is a change in math and behavior.
as i do in my NumberWeight loss guideNumberscience has a conclusive conclusion on this.
Any diet that puts us into a caloric deficit will work. we have NumberCounseling clientsNumber Some people are vegetarian, some are on a ketogenic diet, some count calories, and some do intermittent fasting.
We are able to translate dietary changes into lifestyle changes that we can live with, that’s how we succeed, and that’s different for everyone.
Speaking of lifestyle changes, most of the answers above also involve finding ways to make exercise a regular part of your life.
Remember: It’s okay if you don’t like exercise. We are not born to love sports! Especially if it’s an activity we don’t actually enjoy! We are designed to survive in times of scarcity, not to thrive in times of infinite abundance.
So how do we make exercise part of our lifestyle?
we need to find a way NumberMake exercise fun, beneficial or necessaryNumber:
Remember, hope is a warrior emotion.
We humans are incredibly adaptable creatures, capable of change.
Keep trying different strategies, beware of charlatans, and don’t forget the basics!
One day soon, you too may share the first domino to fall, and it changes everything for you.
