Build Rocket BoyThe gaming company founded by Leslie Benzies, announced today that it has acquired UK software developer PlayFusion for an undisclosed sum. The studio will help Make Rocket Boy to produce its own development script, according to the latter, by furthering the studio’s growth. Make Rocket Boy is currently working on his own game, MindsEye, as well as the game platform Anywhere and a group of UGC tools called Arcadia.
Mark Gerhard, CEO of PlayFusion, said of the acquisition, “The next chapter of our integrated studio will deliver on this promise and disrupt the industry by democratizing the creation of high-quality games. The core PlayFusion team has been working together for nearly two decades and we are excited to be at the forefront of the launch.” The studio is developing a shooter from its Ascendant series, which recently held its open beta.
Benzies said in a statement, “We have always admired PlayFusion’s innovation and innovative ways of transmedia entertainment, and partnering with them will take Build A Rocket Boy to the next level of success. Our vision has always been to put art in the hands of players and the passion of PlayFusion in gaming will help us create powerful offerings for our community to create high-quality AAA games and create first-person online experiences in the near future.
Build Rocket Boy earned $110 million in January as part of its Series D funding, with RedBird Capital Partners. This money went towards the construction of Everywhere and the installation of equipment for the Arcadia studio. After raising this capital, Build Rocket Boy fired many unnamed workers.
