Cristian Romero launches a stunning assault on the Tottenham hierarchy

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero appears to have directed harsh comments at the club’s hierarchy following their latest defeat.

Spurs took a 2-0 lead against London rivals Chelsea on Sunday danced their way to a A 4-3 win, with Romero surprisingly included in Ange Postecoglou’s starting XI before he had to be withdrawn through injury.

Tottenham now they are 11. u Premier League table and have won just one of their last seven matches in all competitions, with a remarkable run of form now needed for the north Londoners to have any hope of qualifying for Champions League.

Their lack of squad depth was exposed against a Chelsea lean towards secondary options at every position and Romero says his team must take into account what their rival clubs are doing in transfer market.

He said Telemundo Sports: “It’s true, I’d say without comment, but…Manchester City competes every year, you see Liverpool strengthen their team, Chelsea strengthen their team, they’re not doing well, they’re stepping up again, and now they’re seeing results.

“Those are things to emulate. You have to understand that something is going wrong, hopefully they do.

“The last few years have always been the same: first the players change, then the coaching staff, and the same people are always responsible.

“Hopefully they’ll figure out who’s really responsible and we’ll move forward because it’s a wonderful club that could easily compete for the title every year with the structure they have.”

Romero’s inclusion now looks like a huge misstep by Postecoglou and his coaching staff, with the Argentina international reported face a six-week stint on the sidelines with a new muscle problem.

Micky van de Ven was a late substitute and looked set to pull through after his first game in over a month, but Tottenham remain in the middle of an injury crisis ahead of Thursday European league clash with the Rangers.

Guglielmo Vicario, Richarlison and Wilson Odobert are long-term casualties, while there are further fitness fears around Ben Davies, Brennan Johnson and Mikey Moore.
