Fisker ends federal safety investigation into rollaway risk

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Monday it did closed the preliminary investigation to Fisker due to complaints that its electric Ocean SUV rolls unexpectedly. US security guard opened an investigation in February after receiving four complaints – one of which resulted in an injury – due to the failure of vehicles to move into the parking lot.

The investigation was closed after troubled Fisker issued a recall for 7,745 of its all-electric SUVs and resolved the issue through software updates, according to NHTSA. The software update, which was released last month, “provides additional capabilities to prevent unexpected vehicle movements using two key changes,” the agency said.

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation still has a pending investigation looking into complaints that Fisker trucks have problems with emergency braking. In 2024, federal regulators opened four investigations into Fisker vehicles that included complaints of sudden loss of braking performance, more comments about sudden automatic braking, dangerous rollaway, and problems opening the car doors.
