I look at a lot of home office equipment for my job, which means my work space is more efficient. A new desk today, another one office chair tomorrow—you’ll get the idea. The constant over the past three years? The BenQ ScreenBar. You may have heard of BenQ – a Taiwanese company that manufactures it good managers and projectors-but this lamp is my first tool for working at home.
The ScreenBar doesn’t take up any desk space, because it hangs on your desktop and illuminates the screen perfectly. It’s a simple little thing, but it brings me so much joy, and the company has been repeating it, with the latest version of ScreenBar Pro. I’m here to tell you that you need to buy one for yourself home office.
ScreenBar comes in several flavors: a ScreenBar, ScreenBar Hello, ScreenBar Plusand ScreenBar Pro. I’ve tried the original ScreenBar and the Pro-Halo offers a backlight that pushes the light behind the monitor if you need light on your screen. and the wall behind your computer. The Plus is similar to the regular ScreenBar, but it has a separate touchpad to adjust brightness settings instead of a touch on top of the lamp.
You can customize these lights to suit your preferences by changing the temperature and light color or even adjusting the lighting pattern to match the ambient light in the room. But what sets the latest ScreenBar Pro apart from its siblings is the motion sensor. Now, a few minutes after I leave my desk, ScreenBar Pro turns off. When I come back, it turns on my computer – it’s like starting my battlespace. Radi.
The ScreenBar’s lights are designed to have a low bleed so the LEDs don’t hurt your eyes, although you’ll want to make sure your monitor is at eye level to avoid it. There isn’t even a ton of low blood on the screening program. That said, the only time I’ve seen any glare on the screen is when I’m watching anything with black content, like a music video or movie. That’s where I turn off the ScreenBar to enjoy OLED’s deep blacks and high contrast.
I have had no problems using this on all types of highlights, including my current curls Alienware AW322QF 32-inch curved gaming monitor. The best part is that you don’t need to use an expensive USB-A port on your PC or laptop to get the lights on – I just plug the ScreenBar directly into the monitor’s USB port for power. It also keeps the cable tidy.
So where are you going? install the web cam if you have a ScreenBar at the top of the monitor? Well, I used to have my little average webcam, but it took some money and some software changes to make it look good. The best way is to just find it BenQ Webcam Extension. This sticks to the top of the ScreenBar and you can arrange your top cameras. It installs a high quality webcam, but I was able to disable it My MX Brio better not to look strange.
ScreenBar is useless if you don’t have a computer monitor at your workplace. But if you only use a laptop, BenQ hasn’t forgotten about you! Last year, I tested the LaptopBar, which mounts on the back of a laptop to illuminate the keyboard and workspace for those late nights at the office.
There are some commercials in this version though. You need to stick the magnetic sticker on the back of your laptop, which is how the LaptopBar is fixed. When you don’t have the LaptopBar attached, there is a permanent magnetic field on the outside, which is not very visible. The LaptopBar also has a battery and can last about two hours at full brightness, but you can plug it into your laptop for longer (this can drain your laptop’s battery).
Still, it’s a small flashlight on the go, perfect for anyone who frequently writes in the dark. The lamp comes with a holder, is dimmable, and offers warm or cool color temperature.
All of this may sound a little silly—it’s just a lamp! Who cares! I know, I know. But ScreenBar’s stylish menu saves space on my already cluttered desktop. I also like light—I like to turn on the lights at the door while my wife likes to be in the dark (I caught her cooking in the dark once, which is just painful for me). So blasting my computer with as much light as I want keeps me happy at work, especially in the months when the sky gets a little dark after 4pm.
It’s the little, nice things like these that make working from home so much fun. And no need to change into work clothes. Or go. Or pack a lunch. Well, you get it.
